Sports can demonstrate accurate leadership values and are rich sources of inspiration about what to do and not to do ! How could they inspire us in our daily leadership.
The individuals and teams flops
Let’s have a look onto Football stars and teams :

3 soccer big stars with a lot of success ! For those that are a bit aware of their careers, it seems obvious that all of them already failed, even if they are the best of the best.
- Ronaldo after Real Madrid period (but with the Portuguese National team)
- Very egocentric, wants to rule them all which leads the team not to follow him
- Typical of a Micromanager
- Messi at Paris Saint Germain team
- PSG probably had a dream team but they didn’t all work together as a team
- This is an example of a company that recruits the best no matter the money they cost without considering how they can work all together or not
- Neymar after Barcelona
- My career is already in the past, i have got the money and i don’t care anymore
- Could easily be seen as someone who has been a great but don’t care anymore but for the money
- Eden Hazard at Real Madrid
- Probably one of the best player in the world, could have become a legend
- His major injury could be seen as a burn out, giving him 2 years to come back and above all, the guy should never have done the move to a non fitted team. This is tipically the guy in the wrong company.
Let’s analyze some teams now

It appears obvious that you can have the best individuals in your team or being the best as individual, it will fail whenever the team do not work as it needs to or if you are not compliant with the team as individual.
So what really imports to act as a team ?

One of my main objective as a leader is :
To help and push those who are doing poorly to do well and the ones that are doing well to do better.

Some best practices to act as a team
- Speak them and express your matters
- Positive attitude mandatory
- Trust in people changes
- Stay professional(s)
- Encourage the whole team to win together !

About individuals
As a team / Company
- Right choice of the players (capabilities, adapted mindset, fit to the role, fit to the needs)
- The human strategy needs coherence and realism also in front of tha availability on the market
- Think in the interest of your teammates first if you can, they will be more enthusiatics. They represents you in front of your customers. Happy employees lead to happy customers
- If you think the player is the dreamed one, onboard him whatever the costs, second choices always leads to second layer results !
- Focus on development, coaching, empowerment and positive attitude
- No micro management, you hire them because you trust them…
- Think diversity, too many leader onboards same oriented profiles
- Finally, stay open to critism don’t be selfish or arrogant nobody’s will trust in you. Only sociopaths or psychopaths can inspire confidence in the disorder (special mention to someone in here)
At the end !
At the end ? We all look maybe ridiculous but successful and happy 🙂

To Remember
A team isn’t a team if it’s just made up of individuals. A company cannot function properly without consistent and coherent teams and team-mates. Always think of the team first, but don’t hesitate to remain decisive even if the team disagrees. Communication is always the key !
